To enhance
interdisciplinary services, education and research
in support of the mental health needs of the elderly.
Purpose
- To facilitate the sharing of clinical expertise,
program design, research and special projects
- To encourage networking between disciplines and
across programs throughout British Columbia
- To encourage interdisciplinary and multi-site collaboration
in research, clinical standards and advocacy
- To foster communication between community and institutional
programs with the goal of increasing understanding,
collaboration and cooperation
Philosophy
We believe:
- That the mental health needs of the elderly are
complex and demand knowledge and expertise beyond
that of any one discipline
- That professionals practising in the field of psychogeriatrics
benefit through learning from the contributions made
by each discipline
- That it is imperative to encourage collaboration
in knowledge, treatment strategies and research because
of the specialized nature of psychogeriatrics
- That a professional multi-disciplinary
association can reduce professional and geographic
isolation as well as facilitate excellence in practice.
